Yesterday morning the DriTherm 37 cavity slabs to insulate the plinth walls were delivered. All this insulation for just two 12m long 1m high walls! Well actually not quite all this. We are filling the 400mm cavities with two layers of 150mm slabs and one of 100mm. The 150mm is only sold by the pallet. A pallet comprises 20 packs and we need 17. So we will have some 'spare'.
When we removed the polythene around the packs they expanded in volume to this:

Actually I only needed to make a small cut in the enfolding plastic and the expansion of the bales tore through the rest. No doubt when the bales are unwrapped the slabs will expand even further. You can see why the installation instructions state that you shouldn't compress the insulation in the cavities as the expansion can dislodge blocks in wet masonry. I can believe it!
