Boxed in

The design of the house means that a fair amount of boxing in of the plumbing pipes will be required. Some needs to be done before second fit plumbing occurs as it will be difficult to do afterwards. In a bit of a catch 22 situation, in some cases, boxing in before second fit plumbing will make second fit electrics more difficult! Mark has started boxing in the two most awkward places which will have minimal impact on the electrics - adjacent to the vanity unit in the bedroom and behind the upstairs w.c.

The waste downpipe travels a short distance along the junction of the wall and floor in the bedroom before dropping through the floor into the shower room below. We have acquired a second hand oak vanity unit which will sit to the side of the boxed in pipe. Mark used some oak from the top of an old sideboard to surround the pipe so that it blends in with the unit. We had originally intended to use this oak to make triangular cupboard doors but it was a little too warped for that. The gap around the pipe where it goes through the floor was filled in with fire-rated acoustic foam.

To the rear of the w.c. has also been boxed in. This time with plasterboard. There will be a little door either side of the pan for access.
