A tight fit

Luke from Bosswood has made a start on our staircase. Having set it out he found that the head height was 1950mm at the tightest point (from the pitch line of the two bottom treads to the trimmer).
Building Regulations state that the minimum headroom allowed is 2000mm. We contacted Building Control for advice. They told us that providing we have a double trimmer (we have) it could be cut off at 45 degrees to give the minimum headroom of 2 metres.
Luke also came over to see if he could gain any extra room from somewhere. Mark had put up the door and window surrounds in preparation for plastering but had yet to make a start on putting up the plasterboard. By pushing the staircase over to the wall studs under the trimmer (rather than against the plasterboard) Luke found another 30mm. Utilising this 30mm and changing the lay out of the bottom winder Luke managed to achieve the 2m head height without the necessity of cutting the trimmer (although the option still exists in case of need). This change would require Mark to put up the plasterboard after the staircase has gone in rather than before. We have agreed to these changes and given Luke the go-ahead to build the staircase.
