A trying try-out

We gathered an extra 3 pairs of hands on site this weekend to try-out assembling and raising a cruck frame.

When we brought the first two rib beams together to join them we found that they did not meet at the ridge. If we brought the ridge ends together then the feet of the cruck splayed out beyond the wall plate. When the ribs were delivered they were arranged in 2 piles. We kept them in these same 2 piles when we stacked them. We experimented once with 2 ribs from the same pile and then with one rib from each pile (in case there was a handedness). The result was the same each time. The angle at the top of each beam is incorrect.

I have contacted Vision for their response and advice as to how this can be remedied. It would seem likely that we are going to have to cut a fillet off of each rib.

The devil makes work for idle hands 'n' all so we got the guys to give us a hand with the heavy door and window gable end frame.
