Plate Spinning

Yesterday we mounted the plinth wall plates. They were HEAVY! We wouldn't have managed to raise them without the engine crane that we bought last week. We had hoped that we might be able to use a winch mounted on the scaffold tower as well but we were unable to find a suitable anchor for the tower.

Each plate came in 2 pieces each of which weighed around 150Kg. DPC was sealed top and bottom on both the inner and outer leaves of the plinth wall before, with the help of the crane, each piece was lifted into place.

One piece of each plate had to be spun through 180 degrees. The picture above shows a plate being spun on a batten placed on the top of the plinth wall.

The two parts of the plate were joined together using 2 pieces of plywood (top and bottom). Insulation was sandwiched in the cavity between the ply.

The first plate went together beautifully and was a perfect fit. The second piece of the second plate was warped so we had to put in a brace to straighten things up. The joint is not so neat and there is a gap of 2 or 3 mm either side of the ply.
