Today we were joined on site by Lew and our friend Richard. The spacing for the rest of the crucks was determined, locators for the first few crucks were fixed to the plinth wall plate and preparations made for tomorrow's big push (or should that be lift) with crane assisted raising of the cruck frames. Unfortunately it was only possible to assemble 2 more crucks. We were restricted by the amount of space available. In addition trimming of the rib beams was required as the flanges of the rib beams did not meet. The beams as delivered by Vision had been cut wrong and Vision sent two people to fix the problem on site (see crux of the matter). Only the two beams in the first cruck were trimmed as a pair. Templates made from these were used to trim the remainder of the ribs. It took around 45 minutes to trim and assemble each cruck frame. This will slow us down tomorrow and means that there will be a lot of time when the crane is not actually in use and that we will require the use of the crane and driver for longer. The ribs that we worked with today were amongst the last cut on site and we are hoping that the poor cutting was just a result of the two guys getting tired and that we will have fewer problems with the beams that they cut earlier in the day.
