Finally we have some straw bales in our strawbale house. We've put in just enough to give us some elbow room to maneuver the glulam and I-beams into position. Once the beams have been fixed in place we will be able to continue putting in the bales up to first floor height. Putting the floor in will then give us a platform to work from for installing the higher bales.

Gaps around the bales are filled with loose straw which is packed in tight.

Any metal, such as this hanger joining the purlin to the timber frame, which is in contact with or penetrates the straw are sealed with Denso tape.
