Noggings

We have 6 lines of noggings, horizontal timber members, running between the beams along the length of the upper floor. These noggings will support the plywood floor and will also allow the beams to share weight. In addition to noggings at the edges of the floor there are noggings beneath each plywood joint which is not above a beam. Each edge of every plywood board will have a 3 inch bearing on either a beam or nogging and will be glued and screwed into place.

Off-cuts from the I-beams have been used to create the noggings around the perimeter of the floor. The other noggings have been made from 2x6" timber. Z-clips secure the noggings in place. There are 2 on each of the perimeter noggings (1 either side) and 4 (2 either side) on the 2x6" pieces.

Later noggings will be attached to the underside of the beams to provide attachment for the ceiling below.
