Waterboarding

We have used Knauf Aquapanel exterior cement board to create the facia and soffits at the gable ends.

The Aquapanel is fixed to the gable sprockets with stainless steel screws. I had bought sufficient Aquapanel exterior stainless steel screws for our use based on the recommended spacing given by Knauf. Mark used a much closer spacing and having soon used up half of the contents of the first box announced that we would need more screws. Stainless steel screws are expensive. Knauf exterior stainless steel screws are outrageously expensive. So I bought the same amount again of 'regular' stainless steel screws. The only apparent difference is that the Knauf screws have flanges on the underside of the head. It turns out that these flanges make a significant difference in the ability to draw the cement board and timber together. Fortunately Mark tried the non-Knauf screws as soon as we got them and having realised they did not have the same drawing ability used the Knauf screws at the recommended spacing and the non-Knauf screws in between.

Cutting the Aquapanel to shape and fixing it in place was faffy and onerous.

The voids between the sprockets behind the cement board have been filled with Knauf Drytherm 37 insulation and covered by breather membrane.

The joints are to be taped and filled and the screw heads covered with filler. Later the soffits and facia will be rendered along with the gable end wall.
