Meeting our Waterloo

One of the first purchases we made on eBay were of 3 pairs of doors removed from Waterloo Station for safe-keeping during the blitz. Two pairs of doors have stainless steel and plate glass Art Deco style windows while the third pair is of plain glass. All of the doors had unfortunately been stored outside in contact with the ground and as a result had some rot - hardly suprising after all this time.

The plan is to use the Art Deco style doors as internal windows between the bedroom and the void over the kitchen. Our original intention was to cut out the bad wood and leave the good to act as frames. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to save any of the wood on 2 of the doors and so we have decided to remove the surrounds and just to use the panels. Amazingly only a few of the plate glass pieces had broken. These have been replaced, together with a couple of panes that were very badly scratched (a small dog trying to get through the door perhaps?), and the stainless frames have been cleaned up.

We are hoping to be able to use the doors with plain glass as internal doors between the bedroom and en-suite.

Before the panels and doors are installed clear glass safety film will be applied to the glass making it compliant with BS EN 12600.
