A table is prepared

This pitch pine table, bought from a second hand shop in Pokesdown, came from a local Baptist Church. Originally used as the church communion table it has for the past few years been serving the needs of the youth group.

I chipped off a not insignificant amount of chewing gum from its underside before stripping, sanding and oiling the top.

The legs, apron and stretcher were then given a couple of coats of Rust-Oleum satin finish furniture paint in Slate. And behold the table has been reborn as a kitchen table. All we need now is the kitchen to put it in.

I have since read some reviews which say that this furniture paint doesn't stand up well to everyday use so I plan on giving the paint work a couple of coats of Polyvine wax finish varnish before the table goes into use.
