The Two Towers

The two scaffolding towers have been erected at the eastern gable end to facilitate the rendering of the aquapanels. This needs to be done by 6 months ago! Delays were caused by the wait for the windows, weather too cold, weather too wet, weather too hot and, by no means least, trying to work out how to render around the powder coated aluminium frames. Mark is going to work on one half of a gable at a time to minimise having to move the towers. Before starting work the window and frame were protected with window film (blue in the photographs) and masking tape (green in the photographs).

The foam that the window installers used in the gap around the frames has begun to degrade as a result of the recent blazing sunshine. So the first thing Mark did was to stabilize it with a coat of PVA bond. Lengths of uPVC bead, snipped to allow them to bend, were then glued to the foam and screwed into the verge sprockets. The bead was then covered with K Rend HP14 basecoat. The bead and frame boundary will eventually be sealed with the ubiquitous builders silicone.

Next a corner bead will be applied and then, finally, we will be ready to render.
